Timothy Fosu-Mensah is being tipped to make his first team debut on the club's upcoming pre-season tour, by The Manchester Evening News.
The 17-year-old recently featured for Manchester United's under-21 side, and the club consider he has made impressive strides since being signed from Ajax last summer.
If he is to be fast-tracked to the first team then the talented centre-back will certainly have been proven right in terms of making his decision.
His arrival caught few headlines last summer as the Red Devils signed proven names like Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao, even though the pair have not gone onto have convincing seasons.
It will be tougher this summer than in some for Fosu-Mensah to make a breakthrough, because there is no major international tournament. The World Cup last summer meant several stars returned late to the club and young players like Michael Keane were given chances against Roma for instance.
Yet pre-season is still very much a time for experimentation, with Adnan Januzaj making his first impact for the club on the 2013 tour of Asia.
If Louis van Gaal has seen first hand or received glowing report of Fosu-Mensah's progress, then it is the perfect chance for him to hand a chance to the young talent, simply to see how he copes and whether he is deserving of a further look or in need of more time to develop.
