Leeds United boss gives injury update on Lewis Cook

Lewis Cook is back in rehab after his ankle injury.

Neil Redfearn has today given an update on the fitness of star midfielder Lewis Cook. The Leeds United boss was speaking in his pre-match press conference, ahead of a weekend tie with Charlton Athletic.

He confirmed that Cook is out of the protective boot on his ankle, but that training is so far at the light-rehab stage, insisting Leeds will not rush him back into action.

In quotes taken from the club's audioboom channel Redfearn stated:

"He is in some early rehab, where he is doing light things.

"We've got the [protective] boot off him which is important. He's out of the protective boot.

"But like I've said Lewis is a really important player to this football club. What is important is that he is fit and available for when he is really ready.

"The last thing we want to do is bring him back, rush him, and give him a problem long-term. He doesn't need that, he's only young.

"He owes us nothing. He's done his bit this season, so we'll make sure we look after him."

Cook has been a star for the club this season. The 18-year-old has played 38 games this season, an incredible tally for one so young.

Unfortunately it caught up with him on international duty with the England under-19 side, where he picked up the ankle problem at the end of last month.

Leeds only have three games left this season and have lost their last four fixtures, ever since Steve Thompson was mysteriously suspended by sporting director Nicola Salerno, so it may be fans do not get to see the youngster in action again this term.

They will just be hoping Leeds keep hold of him, and Redfearn, in the summer.
