Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour has suggested what he feels is the significance of Derby's win against Blackpool earlier this week.
Former Arsenal star Ray Parlour told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show for talkSPORT why he feels Derby’s big win against Blackpool was so significant for the club.
“Derby needed a result, I know it was against Blackpool but they needed it because Steve McClaren over the last few weeks has really struggled,” said Parlour.
The Derby boss has been striving for something in the last few weeks, which reignites the performances of the team after they saw their lead at the top of the Championship disintegrate.
McClaren may have been starting to doubt himself and his tactics a little bit, but the big win against the low placed Championship strugglers will definitely give the confidence of the manager and the squad a big boost.
He’s not been helped by injuries to key players, but he’s found a winning formula again and can use a winning mentality to the benefit of the club over the rest of the campaign.
Next up for the club is a match against Huddersfield where they will be under pressure to back up the win against Blackpool, defend their position in the top six and give McClaren further reason to be positive about the job he’s doing.
