After touring North America last preseason, Tottenham are set to return to the States this summer as the opponents for the league's annual showpiece, which will take place at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park – home of the Colorado Rapids.
Having returned to MLS from White Hart Lane in August 2013, Seattle Sounders forward Dempsey looks a good bet to make the All-Star roster, while LA Galaxy skipper and reigning league MVP Robbie Keane could also be lining up against his former club.
In addition, the pair could see the likes of Kaka and David Villa join them in the squad and Kane is expecting a tough contest as a result.
“It’ll be great but tough,” he said. “They’ve got some great players obviously with Dempsey, David Villa and Kaka now so these are world class players.
“I’m really looking forward to it. It’ll be a big test for us early in preseason.”
The summer’s clash should also see former Seattle Sounders and now-Tottenham defender DeAndre Yedlin face off against some familiar faces, having started the 2014 All-Star match against Bayern Munich and made the 2013 team versus Roma – the first rookie to receive the honour since 2005.
The game could be used as potential send-off for Brad Friedel, too, with the Spurs goalkeeper and US legend, who will turn 44 next month, expected to retire in the summer.
Whatever his future plans, though, the ex-Columbus Crew stopper sounded eager to feature against the best MLS has to offer when speaking to Sky Sports, declaring: “It would be fantastic.
“Definitely Robbie Keane and Clint Dempsey will make the All-Star team and it will be interesting to see how many games Frank Lampard will have under his belt, how many games Steven Gerrard will have under his belt because it would be great to see those two as well.
“Playing at altitude, the Tottenham boys are going to be breathing a little bit. Denver is a fantastic city, picturesque with the Rocky Mountains in the distance.”
