Derby County’s Steve McClaren raves about Aston Villa-owned Darren Bent

Aston Villa-owned striker Darren Bent has been in impressive form for Derby County in the Championship.

Derby County manager Steve McClaren has been singing the praises of striker Darren Bent in a press conference today, according to the club’s official Twitter page.

Bent joined Championship outfit Derby on loan from Premier League club Aston Villa in the January transfer window.

Despite his injury problems, the 31-year-old has been a huge success at the iPro Stadium and has established himself as a key player for the Rams.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland star has scored 10 goals and created as many chances in 13 Championship appearances so far this season, while having a pass accuracy of 74% and a shot accuracy of 63%.

McClaren has been hugely impressed with Bent and said in a press conference today, as reported by Derby’s official Twitter account: “Darren Bent has been outstanding. 12 goals in 15 games is brilliant. He has made a real impact. He is playing in a good team.”

Bent will be a key player for Derby, as they aim to consolidate their place in Championship playoffs and gain promotion to the Premier League.

The Rams will take on Huddersfield Town and Millwall away from home this month, before facing Reading at the iPro Stadium on Saturday, May 2.

Derby are currently fifth in the Championship table with 75 points from 43 matches, seven points behind second-placed Norwich City.
