Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish Tweets happiness at Joel Ward contract extension

The ever present defender has committed his long-term future to the club.

Crystal Palace secured the services of Joel Ward yesterday. The full-back has been a magnificent signing for the club, ever since he switched from Portsmouth in 2012.

He has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2018 and Palace fans will no doubt be pleased.

He has fully deserved the new deal. He has played in every minute of Palace's current Premier League campaign and that has now been fully rewarded.

Palace fans were obviously pleased with the deal, for good reason.

Ward was recently linked with a move to Southampton, as reported by the Mirror and the fact he has now committed his future to Selhurst Park will please the Palace faithful - as well as the club chairman.

Steve Parish is certainly an expressive chairman, often letting fans know his feelings through Twitter or Sport Lobster.

Yesterday he Tweeted after the announcement was made that Ward would be staying at Palace for at least another three years.

He seemed pleased:

Parish must be on cloud nine at the moment. His decision to bring Alan Pardew to the club has paid off dividends as the Eagles are currently soaring in the Premier League.

Ward has been pivotal to that success, and he can continue to be for many a year after yesterday's announcement.
