Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher praised Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino during a Sky Sports broadcast for taking a risk with Harry Kane earlier this season.
Carragher has also suggested Kane is the only player who can rival Chelsea’s Eden Hazard in terms of impact this season, which is impressive considering he’s not yet completed a full Premier League year as a player at White Hart Lane.
“I think he's (Harry Kane) the closest to Hazard - To be keeping players out, all credit to him and to Pochettino for taking the risk,” said Carragher.
Kane’s impact on Tottenham’s attack this season has been demonstrated by the fact he’s the club’s top scorer and should finish the campaign with well over 30 goals across all competitions.
He’s scored in big games against some of Tottenham’s main rivals with the only downside the likelihood that he won’t have any silverware to boast about by the end of the year, with the Champions League further away than it has been all season.
In terms of Pochettino’s guts for playing him, he effectively had little choice because Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor struggled to perform over the first period of the season.
However, he resisted the chance to dip into the transfer market before it closed last summer, with EuroSport quoting his belief and confidence in Kane as an option for the team before the season really got underway.
The challenge now for player and manager is to kick on, end the season well and be consistent over the 2015/2016 season in the hope that Champions League football can be brought back to White Hart Lane.
