Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has revealed to the Sport Magazine that he was frightened of dogs as a kid.
The Germany international has a black pug named Balboa after the famous character played by Sylvester Stallone.
“I have one dog, his name is Balboa,” Ozil told the Sport Magazine. “But I was frightened of dogs as a kid!
“I wanted to overcome my fear, so I decided the best way to do this would be to own a dog. I got it as a puppy, raised it and have overcome my fear. Now, I love dogs.”
While this story is amusing and will spark some chuckles, it is also a great life lesson: embrace your fear.
Ozil realised that in order to overcome his fear, he needed to face it head on, which he did.
The former Real Madrid star has been criticised on many occasions over the past two years since his move to the Premier League.
However, the 2014 World Cup winner has stood strong and has recovered his form in recent months, re-establishing himself as one of the key players in the Arsenal team.
Arsene Wenger’s side are currently second in the Premier League table with 66 points from 32 matches, seven points behind leaders Chelsea, who have a game in hand.
