Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell has suggested to the club's official site that his teammates should not dwell on their heavy defeat to Crystal Palace last weekend.
Sunderland lost 4-1 to Palace on Saturday in a very disheartening loss, but Rodwell insists that his team simply have to move on from that disappointment.
There is nothing that Sunderland can do to change the past and Rodwell believes that looking forward is the only way that they can overcome the set-back.
“Everything is still in our own hands so it is important not to dwell on Saturday’s result, but we definitely have to address it and make sure we don’t make the same errors again," he said.
Moving on from their defeat to Palace may be easier said than done as it was such a gut-wrenching one for Sunderland's players and supporters alike.
The Black Cats appeared to have turned the corner after a win against Newcastle United, but the loss to Palace sends them right back to square one and they will have to improve if they are to stay in the Premier League.
At the moment Sunderland are three points clear of the relegation zone, but some teams around them are starting to pick up form and that gap will be closed unless Dick Advocaat's men start picking up victories.
Their next chance to do so will come in two Saturdays' time, when the side prepare to face a Stoke City side who have little left to play for.
