McClaren picks out three areas of Derby win which impressed him

Derby County boss Steve McClaren has explained exactly what impressed him about the win against Blackpool.

Derby County manager Steve McClaren has explained to the club’s website what impressed him most about the club’s performance against Blackpool.

The Rams were superb in a 4-0 win over the Tangerines, which has helped them hold their position in the Championship play-off places ahead of further important games to come over the next few weeks.

McClaren has suggested that there wasn’t one single impressive aspect to the performance, with several areas impressing him.

“We took advantage tonight, but I’m pleased with the performance, which was important,” said McClaren.

“I was pleased with the clean sheet, the tempo and the possession with which we played with as well as the goals that we scored.”

The clean sheet was important because it gives the defence confidence and convinces the player’s across Derby’s backline that they are doing the right things.

It gives the whole side confidence and takes the pressure away from the attack in the respect that they only need one goal to turn an important game.

The tempo is important because when Derby play quicker, they are harder for the opposition to deal with.

Derby have some very experienced attacking players and talent in midfield, which they can capitalise on when they move possession around quickly.

Protecting the ball is paramount to ensuring wins against the best teams in the division and if the Rams do that successfully over the coming weeks, they’ll continue their good form and could well be favourites heading into the play-off games.
