Simon Dawkins impressed for Derby County in an unfamiliar central role.

Derby County attacker Simon Dawkins looked like a different player in a 4-0 win over Blackpool.

The 27-year-old was deployed in a central attacking role against the hapless Tangerines, and looked lively throughout.

Dawkins also recorded more accurate passes than any Championship player in Tuesday night's round of matches.

  TeamAccurate Pass
Simon Dawkins Derby 76
Barry Bannan Bolton 71
Lewis Dunk Brighton 67
Stephen Warnock Derby 65
Gaëtan Bong Wigan 61
Andrew Surman Bournemouth 61

He managed 95 touches of the ball and recorded a 92 per cent pass completion rate, an impressive figure for a player linking play in the opposition third.

Dawkins created two chances during the game and registered two shots on target, also making two interceptions.

It was his first game in the centre this season, having been used on the wings by Steve McClaren, with 14 Championship starts to his name and 18 appearances from the bench. He has two goals and two assists to his name this season.

Signed from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013 after a loan spell at Aston Villa, Dawkins has not yet been able to cement himself as a regular in the starting line-up.

It must be remembered that the opposition were woeful, with already relegated Blackpool clearly not performing at Championship level at present, but Dawkins' display certainly offered intrigue and encouragement.
