Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke highlights Leandro Bacuna's help during goalscoring run

The Dutchman has set up three of his in-form teammate's goals over the past five Premier League games.

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has praised Leandro Bacuna’s service amid his recent goalscoring run.

Benteke was speaking to AVTV after scoring the deciding goal in the weekend’s 1-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur thanks to Bacuna’s pinpoint cross from the right flank.

The versatile Dutchman found himself on the fringes of the now-departed Paul Lambert's squad over the first half of the season, earning just seven league appearances for a total of 184 minutes, but has since become an important contributor following Tim Sherwood's appointment as manager.

Deputising at right-back in recent weeks for the suspended and now injured Alan Hutton, the former Under-21 international has used his attacking skills to pick up three assists in five games – all for Benteke, who is now on a run of eight goals in six matches.

The free-scoring Belgian has been delighted to see his teammate back in the side and helping him make an impact but also stresses that the entire team has been able to up its game since Sherwood’s arrival.

“At the moment, he’s feeding me very well so I am pleased with that,” Benteke said on Bacuna. “Since he came back into the team he’s been really helping us and I’m happy for him.

“Without opportunities we can’t score and before [Sherwood] came we weren’t creating them.

“Now it’s different – we’re creating chances and we’re much more dangerous.”

Villa are now gearing up to face Liverpool in Sunday afternoon's FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium, when Benteke will be hoping to get on the end of a few more Bacuna deliveries in their bid to cause an upset.

The imposing front man realises that their opponents are favourites going into the match but believes that results like the 1-0 win at Anfield earlier in the season show that they have a great chance to give the travelling Villa supporters something to celebrate.

“At the moment, the confidence in the team is high. Of course, Liverpool will be favourites but we have a chance to win this game,” he added.

“It’s going to be a great atmosphere because we have great supporters and, to be fair, they do too.

“This is a big game and everyone is buzzing and looking forward to it.”
