Arsenal have been linked with signing Marco Reus recently. Might they step up their pursuit with Jurgen Klopp's impending departure announced?
Manchester United and Arsenal must be licking their lips at their chances of landing top transfer targets after Jurgen Klopp's departure from the club was confirmed on Wednesday - and Mats Hummels is even said by SkySports to be considering a move to the Red Devils.
Enigmatic manager Klopp told a press conference he felt the chance was right to part ways with Borussia Dortmund after his worst ever season in charge of the club, as reported by The BBC.
His departure leaves many questions, and not only over his own future, with his next destination at present the matter of speculation.
The side he built has recently seen high profile departures in Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski, and previously Nuri Sahin and Shinji Kagawa - who both returned to the club.
Players at the peak of their powers like Marco Reus and Mats Hummels will now have to reconsider their own future, and intense interest from Premier League clubs is likely to follow.
The Telegraph reported at the end of March that Arsene Wenger is keen on bringing Reus to Arsenal, especially with Theo Walcott's long-term future unclear.
The 25-year-old winger has 11 goals this season for Dortmund, and while he recently signed a new contract with the club, Klopp's departure has the potential to change everything.
More likely to depart is captain Mats Hummels - who has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United. Speaking in Germany, Klopp said as reported by SkySports: "He's good enough for Manchester United. He's told me he's thinking things over."
Hummels has two years left on his deal at Dortmund, and is a long rumoured target for Louis van Gaal's side, who lack an experienced centre-back.
Another player likely to depart the Bundesliga side is Ilkay Gundogan, with German magazine Kicker this week linking the central midfielder to Arsenal, while The Mirror have over the last 24 hours claimed it is in fact Manchester City who are most interested in his signature.
