Anthony Martial was linked with a summer move to White Hart Lane and the Lilywhites can watch the Monaco man in action against Juventus
As a Monaco player hailing from the same Paris suburb of Massy and known for his electric pace, Anthony Martial was always likely to court comparisons with a certain Thierry Henry.
But Premier League fans may finally get a chance to see whether the 19-year-old lives up to the billing this week with the Principality club in action against Juventus in the Champions League.
Henry endured a miserable single season in Italy with the Turin giants after leaving Monaco, but should Martial opt to depart the Stade Louis II then England and potentially North London looks a possible destination.
The bad news for Arsenal fans still singing Henry’s name around the Emirates, however, is that previous reports appear to suggest it is Tottenham, rather than the Gunners, who are keen to recruit the Frenchman.
Reports carried by both TalkSPORT and Metro last summer appeared to suggest Spurs were keen on ironing out a deal for the forward, who has been capped by France 12 times at Under-21 level, scoring four goals for Les Bleus’ junior side.
Metro claimed that Tottenham had offered £15.8 million for the Monaco attacker but after a season in which Martial has flourished in France, any price tag attached to the player is only likely to have increased.
Recruited from Lyon back in June 2013, Martial has enjoyed something of a breakthrough season for Monaco, scoring 10 goals in 39 appearances this term.
Among the goals last time out in a routine 3-0 victory away from home against Caen, the forward will be hoping to live up to those Henry comparisons against Juventus in the Champions League.
The Bianconeri lost 1-0 to Parma at the weekend with a weakened line-up and should be fresh for the trip to France.
If Martial impresses against the Serie A leaders, Tottenham may not be the only Premier League side taking a closer look at the youngster.
