18-year-old midfielder Bishop has been linked with a summer transfer to Aston Villa, as per the Sun, and his Ipswich Town teammate Murphy has told TWTD he is already going someway to emulating some key Premier League midfielders.
The Championship leading scorer said: “I played alongside both Jordan [Henderson, Liverpool] and Jack [Colback, Newcastle] when they were coming through at Sunderland and you could see how good they were going to be.
“Teddy is definitely on a par with those guys at the same age. Some of the things he does in training, never mind in games, convince me he is going all the way.”
Despite his young age, Bishop already has 29 appearances to his name this term, registering one goal and five assists as the Tractor Boys look to secure promotion to the Premier League.
Naturally a central attacking midfielder, he can also play in a deeper, playmaking role, as well as out wide, and any Premier League club would be lucky to prise him away from Portman Road this summer.
Villa have a definite interest in him, and may other clubs will surely start scouting the youngster when his appearances increase his reputation. At such a young age Bishop represents a wise long-term investment, whilst his homegrown status could make him a valuable commodity with the FA’s desire to bring in new homegrown rules.
To receive such high praise so early in his career obviously increased the pressure on Bishop to live up to his undoubted potential, and Tim Sherwood would be wise to go all out this summer in an attempt to secure the young midfielder’s talents.
