Newcastle player ratings vs Liverpool: Janmaat stars but Taylor struggles

We rate Newcastle United players' performances during their 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last night.

Tim Krul - 7

One save from Lucas' header stood out. There was little the Newcastle United stopper could have done with either of Liverpool's goals.

Ryan Taylor - 4

Liverpool targeted the right-back consistently throughout the match and he struggled to deal with their attacking threat.

Daryl Janmaat - 7

Emerging as a candidate to take the Newcastle captain's armband. His performance last night was arguably the best of anyone in a black and white shirt.

Mike Williamson - 4

Isn't capable of playing at this level. His performance last night was lethargic, with his lack of pace exposed.

Vurnon Anita - 5

Played a left-back, Anita did better than Taylor on the other side, but still didn't look too impressive.

Jack Colback - 6

The Newcastle midfielder was typically energetic, but he struggled to link things up between the defence and the attack.

Moussa Sissoko - 3

His rash tackle, which led to him getting sent off, ultimately cost his side and it showed the lack of discipline in the Newcastle squad at the moment.

Mehdi Abeid - 6

Had a presentable chance in the first half which he missed, but he showed more than a number of his teammates.

Gabriel Obertan - 5

The Newcastle wide man didn't manage to get too involved in the match. Nothing really came off for him.

Remy Cabella - 6

Flashes of excellence, but didn't manage to create too much. Still one of Newcastle's more prominent threats.

Ayoze Perez - 6

Isolated up front, but he was unfortunate not to win a penalty in the first half.
