Tottenham Hotspur legend Gary Lineker has taken to social networking site Twitter to suggest that Manchester City star Gael Clichy cannot defend.
The former England international striker made the observation during Sunday’s Manchester derby at Old Trafford.
The Premier League clash ended in a 4-2 victory for hosts Manchester United, and former Arsenal left-back Clichy was one of the City players who failed to play well.
Lineker was not impressed with the 29-year-old France international’s performance against the Red Devils and made the following post on Twitter:
'Clichy can't defend' is becoming a football cliché.— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) April 12, 2015
Clichy is a big-name player in the Premier League, but he struggled to play his best football in the Manchester derby.
The former Cannes defender had a pass accuracy of 63%, put in one cross, attempted three dribbles, did not win any tackles and committed three fouls.
However, Clichy made four interceptions, four clearances and two blocks over the course of the 90 minutes.
In 23 Premier League appearances so far this season, the City defender has scored one goal and created 26 chances, while having a pass accuracy of 81% and a shot accuracy of 29%.
The former Arsenal star has won 47 of the 89 tackles he has attempted and 24 of the 61 headers he has gone for.
