Falcao had to leave Monaco to feel happy, claims midfielder

Radamel Falcao

Nabil Dirar has spoken out regarding how unhappy Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao was at Monaco.

Tuesday night will be a strange one for Manchester United striker Falcao. His team picked up a fantastic 4-2 win against Manchester City in the Manchester derby on Sunday, but he failed to play a major part in the game, and he will also have to watch as his parent club, Monaco, take on Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

Speaking to Le Parisien, midfielder Nabil Dirar has revealed that Falcao did not enjoy his time in the principality.

“I think Falcao will be kicking himself after leaving," he said. "Here, he would have played and participated in the Champions League, but perhaps he needed more atmosphere. At Monaco, he didn't feel good."

Dirar continued to talk about all the players who left in the summer and how they may regret their actions.

“We talk all the time about Falcao and James, but also Mounir Obbadi and Emmanuel Riviere, two others who have left," he said. "All these players have missed it. We took criticism at the start of the season, it was hard.”

When his loan deal runs out at the end of the season, Falcao may actually have to return to Monaco to at least begin pre-season training.

This season Falcao has only managed four goals in 21 appearances, which leads many to believe that the Premier League club won’t take the option to sign him this summer, leaving the Colombian with an uncertain future.

Now it is Dirar and the rest of his teammates who are having the last laugh. James is still in the competition with Real Madrid, but the others have missed out on a great opportunity.

Monaco’s performances this season go a long way to show that not only were they not a good fit for Falcao, but that he was not a good fit for the Ligue 1 club.

Falcao may have needed to leave Monaco to find a better atmosphere, but perhaps he is just as unhappy in Manchester as he was in Monte Carlo.
