In an announcement on PlayStation's official site on Monday, which was accompanied by the first footage from the second expansion House of Wolves (below), Bungie announced it is set for release on Wednesday May 20th.
In a statement about its plans for the futuristic role-playing first-person shooter, Bungie said the Reef will open to all Guardians where gamers will join the allies of the Queen to hunt down the traitorous Fallen from the House of Wolves.
A spokesman for Bungie said: "It’s been an amazing seven months since we released Destiny.
"We’ve had the chance to welcome you to the Tower and get to know you in the game. It’s been awesome. Thanks for playing and lending your spirit to our community. Now, it’s time to begin another adventure together. Let the hunt begin."
Over the course of the next month, the firm, which shot to fame for its legendary Halo series, will be unveiling a host of new activities, modes, events and gear that gamers will get access to and urged people to 'stay tuned to see exactly where your legend is headed next'.
Back in January, Bungie's DLC timetable was reportedly leaked online and hinted that House of Wolves will contain three new story missions, with a new strike, a new raid, and four new PVP maps.
Despite some initial mixed reviews, the game's publishers Activision claimed it had been the most successful new gaming franchise launch in history, as Destiny shipped more than $500 million to retail stores and first-parties worldwide.
The game, available on PlayStation 4 and 3 and Xbox One and 360, has more than 16 million registered players, and of the active accounts playing, gamers average more than three hours of gameplay per day. It was also the third best-selling game in the United States last year.
According to the leaked DLC schedule, the next expansion after House of Wolves will be released in September this year.
