A Brazilian winger, Wellington has yet to appear for the Gunners since his signing in 2011, although he was finally awarded a work permit this season so he can start making a name for himself in the Premier League next term.
With his contract expiring though, there is no guarantee that he will still be an Arsenal player at the start of the next campaign, although it is hard to see why not following some of his recent performances in La Liga for UD Almeria.
This season, the winger has made 29 appearances in all competitions, with 25 league games bringing four assists for the relegation strugglers.
Last weekend, Almeria registered an impressive 3-0 victory over relegation rivals Granada, and although Wellington neither registered a goal or an assist, his performance was of a high enough quality to earn a place in Marca’s team of the week.
As sourced by SportWitness, Marca’s selection gave Wellington an eight rating as a number 10. He managed two shots, three crosses and completed an impressive five take-ons, although he did fail to create a goalscoring chance.
The potential is definitely being shown by Wellington, although the quality is still too intermittent to be a regular player for Arsenal. Regardless, the Gunners must be pleased that they are looking to tie down the future of a potential superstar having been considered on of La Liga’s best players recently.
