Arsenal legend Ian Wright has predicted in The Sun that Manchester United will challenge for the Premier League title next season.
The former England international striker made the comments following the Red Devils’ 4-2 victory over Manchester City at Old Trafford in the Manchester derby on Sunday.
“Van Gaal may rub a few people up the wrong way, but you cannot knock the guy’s record – and there is every sign he will have United bang in there challenging for the title again next year,” Wright wrote in The Sun.
It has taken Louis van Gaal months to get United playing the kind of football that one expects of them, and there is indeed a very good chance that they will challenge for the championship next season.
The primary objective for the Dutchman this campaign was to guide the Manchester outfit back into the Champions League, which he is likely to do.
While United’s performances for most of the season have left much to be desired, their displays against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and City have been superb.
The current United side is far from ‘great’, but if Van Gaal can make some good signings in the summer transfer window, then they will certainly be able to compete with Chelsea for the Premier League title next season.
