Arsenal fans react on Twitter to Jack Wilshere performance in under-21 loss

Jack Wilshere Press Conference - 18/02/2014

Arsenal fans were encouraged by Jack Wilshere's display despite an under-21 defeat.

Jack Wilshere captained Arsenal's under-21 side against Reading last night but could not stop the team slipping to a 1-0 home defeat.

The winning goal was scored by Niall Keown, son of former Gunners defender Martin Keown, giving Reading a victory in the same wee their senior side take on Arsenal in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.

Arsenal are heavy favourites to win the clash and set up a final against either Aston Villa or Liverpool as they look to defend the trophy.

Jack Wilshere has not featured for the senior side in 2015 after picking up an ankle injury against Manchester United in November.

He is hoping to earn a recall to the first team squad for the end to the season, and this was his second under-21 game in a week.

He played 88 minutes before being substituted, and looked bright throughout, even if he could not lift a lacklustre Arsenal side to claim even a draw.

The best he may have been able to hope for may be a place on the bench, but this is not impossible given the reaction of fans to his display against Reading.

With important matches against Chelsea and Manchester United to come in the Premier League too, Wilshere's comeback gives Arsene Wenger a rare embarrassment of riches when it comes to team selection.

Here is a look at how fans responded via Twitter to Wilshere's performance against Reading's under-21s...
