Outspoken pundit Jamie Redknapp believes caretaker boss John Carver has had an almost impossible job to do at Newcastle United, telling Sky Sports that the Geordies only possess one player of 'top six' quality.
The Magpies have drifted dangerous towards the relegation zone since the start of the New Year, winning just two of 11 games and collecting eight points.
For a club of their size, the general census among Premier League observers would say that it’s utterly unacceptable and the decision to allow Alan Pardew to walk away has ultimately backfired.
However, Redknapp believes the Magpies’ underlying problem is the general lack of quality in their squad – pinpointing Moussa Sissoko as their only player who a top six club would want to buy.
“I feel sorry for John Carver because when I look at the talent at his disposal, I'm not sure Jose Mourinho or Louis van Gaal could do much better,” Redknapp explained.
“Moussa Sissoko is the only Newcastle player you'd take to a top-six club. Newcastle have plateaued and, unless they get some serious investment, things aren't going to change”

The box-to-box midfielder has arguably been the Magpies’ standout performer this season, impressing in a number of key categories as per the table provided by Opta Stats.
Sissoko averages 2.41 successful take-ons per Premier League encounter and is also a key contributor defensively, recording an average 6.03 defensive duel winner and 6.52 ball recoveries per match.
According to the Daily Mail, the 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Arsenal in recent months and he is sure to be linked with a Champions League club again this summer.
