Jamie Redknapp has predicted in his Sky Sports blog that his former team Liverpool will get back to winning ways in the Premier League and see off a struggling Newcastle United side.
The Reds go into the encounter having suffered a massive blow to their top four hopes, losing consecutive matches to rivals Manchester United and Arsenal
The Magpies, likewise, have not experienced pleasant days in recent months as they drift towards the end of the season in disappointing fashion, winning just two of their last league 11 matches.
It’s the perfect opportunity for Brendan Rodgers’ men to at least put some pressure on fourth-placed Manchester City, and Redknapp predicts them to do so with a 3-1 victory.
“After defeats to Arsenal and Manchester United in the league, they need to get their form going ahead of next week's trip to Wembley, though, and, against Newcastle on Monday, they have a great chance to do just that,” Redknapp explained.
“I've gone for Liverpool to win this one 3-1 and it would be great for the home fans to see some goals - because that has been a problem for Rodgers' side this season.”
Are Liverpool clear favourites for the clash at Anfield?
Despite defeats against United and Arsenal, it’s easy to forget that the Reds are still in the midst of a very good run and they came up against another two teams bang in form.
The Merseysiders have goals in them, and it could be a great opportunity for Daniel Sturridge to get over his recent goal scoring woes and bag a couple.
The Geordies look lost under caretaker boss John Carver and despite his efforts, their players seem like they just want the season to end now in order to sort out their futures this summer.
