Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has commented on his plans for the summer transfer window to London24.
Spurs are expected to be active in the summer, as Pochettino looks to bolster his squad, and the Argentine has admitted that he has already drawn up a list of targets for the club to obtain.
Crucial to getting their targets in the door will be ensuring that a number of their fringe players leave, though, as Pochettino insists that he doesn't want to make the squad any bigger than it currently is.
“Always you have in your head some idea [of potential transfer targets], yes," he said. "We need to analyse. But always you can improve your squad. Always this is our idea.
“How will we deal with it if we are in the Europa League again? We need to analyse that and we need to design a squad to arrive in a different level. A bigger squad? No. Not bigger. Maybe different.”
Tottenham's team at the moment is packed with players who have failed to impress over recent seasons and there could be a number of departures in the summer.
The likes of Vlad Chiriches, Paulinho, Younes Kaboul, Aaron Lennon, Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor could all be in danger of leaving White Hart Lane, and if they do then Spurs should have plenty of room to bring in some increased quality.
Spurs have the core of a good squad, but they have suffered with a lack of strength in depth this campaign and Pochettino has not been able to rotate as regularly as he would have been hoping.
As a result, the side have appeared fatigued over recent months and their performances of late have been far short of the quality required if the Lilywhites are to break into the top four.
The task for Tottenham, therefore, will be to add the quality to their ranks to ensure that their season doesn't peter out again next term and it means that this upcoming summer will be vital to their chances.
