Liverpool have been dealt a blow over Mamadou Sakho's fitness.
Liverpool have been dealt a blow regarding the fitness of centre-back Mamadou Sakho.
The Liverpool Echo report that the French international will be out for three to four weeks after a scan on his hamstring injury sustained against Blackburn Rovers.
It is an unfortunate consequence of Liverpool's failure to beat Rovers at Anfield in the original quarter-final clash, with the replay at Ewood Park needed.
Now Sakho is out of the semi-final match at Wembley against Aston Villa, and tonight's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.
He also stands to miss Premier League games away to West Bromwich Albion and Hull City later in the month, and potentially May's matches against QPR and Chelsea, likely to return for the final two games with Crystal Palace and Stoke City, plus a FA Cup final should Liverpool be fortunate enough to earn their place.
Sakho missed several weeks of action earlier in the season, and their defence improved notably when he returned to action.
Martin Skrtel serves the final game of his three-match suspension tonight and will be available afterwards, which is at least one piece of good news for the Reds.
Fans however were not impressed with the reports about Sakho, taking to Twitter to bemoan their bad luck...
Sakho out for4 weeks. Another chance for Lovren to play. He's not been bad after a shaky start. Lad is a good defender, get behind him #LFC— What Luke Said (@Luke_Chidlow4) April 12, 2015
Sakho out so we have to put Emre Can in a back 4, LCB next to either Skrtel or Lovren, the alternative would be disastrous Probably #LFC— Phill (@LFCchronicles) April 12, 2015
Massive blow. Losing Sakho our best defender for basically the rest of the season. #LFC— Shushil Patel (@shushp) April 12, 2015
Sakho rumored to be out for 3-4 weeks. Disgusting news. Very, very underated player. Well better team with him in squad! #LFC— YouCantStudgeThis (@WarriorLFC) April 12, 2015
