Jonas Hector may be a defender by trade, but the Cologne stopper showcased his attacking prowess against Hoffenheim with a superb solo goal.
Tottenham’s search for defensive reinforcements could see the club turn to Germany international full-back Jonas Hector, and on recent showings he could prove to be an acquisition with more than just a hint of Gareth Bale about him.
Currently on the books at Bundesliga side Cologne, the 24-year-old emerged as a possible target for the Lilywhites last week, with TuttoMercatoWeb claiming the North London club were keen on a deal for the full-back.
Whether word of Spurs’ rumoured interest got back to Hector remains to be seen, but the German certainly pulled off a fine Bale impression during a league clash with Hoffenheim on Saturday.
Taking the ball near the touchline, just inside the opposition’s half of the field, Hector went on a mazy solo run that saw him beat six Hoffeheim players.
He then kept his cool to slot home for Cologne as part of a 3-2 victory that saw the club move further away from the Bundesliga drop zone.
Though not a regular goalscorer by any means, having previously netted three league goals for the German side, Hector will be hoping his latest effort can showcase another side to his game for any prospective scouts watching on.
Bale started life at White Hart Lane as a left-back before moving further up the field for the Lilywhites.
Though Hector is unlikely to do the same any time soon, this latest effort could get Tottenham fans paying closer attention to him in the coming weeks and months.
