He has just 10 appearances to his name in all competitions for Pippo Inzaghi’s men, and there were rumours that his deal would be cut short in January so the Blues could send him out on loan to a different club to guarantee playing time for the Dutch international.
And it looks as if he has finally started to gain some consistency in his performance levels.
For the first time this season, van Ginkel has started four games in a row, all in the league, and even registered an assist in Milan’s recent 2-1 victory over Palermo.
He has played the full 90 minutes in each of those four games, and it is unlikely that Inzaghi will rotate too much with the Italian giants currently three unbeaten with the youngster involved.
It will likely still be considered a wasted year for van Ginkel, having spent so long on the sidelines, but it appears as if the 22-year-old is finally returning back to his best. He will probably be loaned out again next term, having done little to impress this season, but the attacking midfielder could finally be working his way into senior plans at Stamford Bridge.
