Wolverhampton Wanderers suffered a blow in their quest to finish in the top six of the Championship this season on Saturday.
The Wanderers headed into the game against Birmingham City at St. Andrew’s on the back of a 4-3 victory over Leeds United at home.
Wolves had won four games in a row in the Championship and were expected to pick up all three points against Birmingham, but they failed.
Former Arsenal prospect Benik Afobe put the visiting side in the lead in the 21st minute, but Birmingham restored parity through defender Rob Kiernan in the 25th minute.
Then just past the hour mark, Demarai Gray scored his first goal of 2015 as Birmingham won the West Midlands derby 2-1.
The result leaves Wolves eighth in the Championship table with 71 points from 42 matches, level on points with sixth-placed Ipswich Town.
Gutted with the result today but still got 4 games to go! Fans were incredible throughout the game. Let's make it right Tuesday. #wwfc— Benik Afobe (@Afobe_) April 11, 2015
Small consolation for me I'm pleased to be the first player in England to get to 30 goals this season in all comps. Thanks for the messages.— Benik Afobe (@Afobe_) April 11, 2015
Such a shame it happens tho! It's football. Got to go to Middlesbrough on Tuesday night now and take 3 points!— Jordan Graham (@JordanG_14) April 11, 2015
Kenny Jackett’s side are back in Championship action on Tuesday when they take on Middlesbrough away from home at the Riverside Stadium.
