Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi set a new personal record on Saturday as he once again found the net during his side’s pulsating 2-2 draw away at Sevilla.
It was the Argentine superstar’s 19th La Liga goal against the Andalusia outfit, the most he has scored against any league opponent during his career in the Spanish top flight.
19 - Leo Messi has scored more goals against Sevilla than versus any other opponent in La Liga. Annoying— OptaJose (@OptaJose) abril 11, 2015
His goal wasn’t quite as spectacular as some of his previous strikes against Sevilla, but it was still a delight to watch as he beautifully curled a left-footed effort past the hapless Sergio Rico.
Neymar quickly doubled the Catalans’ lead with a superb free-kick, but Unai Emery’s side battled back and forced home a late equaliser, denying Luis Enrique’s men a vital three points in the title race.
The Nou Camp outfit still maintain a two-point lead over Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, but they can no longer afford to drop any more points owing to Madrid’s superior head-to-head record.
As for Messi, his sublime finish takes his La Liga season tally to 34 goals, four shy of Cristiano Ronaldo following the Portuguese superstar’s strike against Eibar earlier in the day.
