Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke outshone Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane as the Villans secured a crucial 1-0 victory at White Hart Lane.
Heading into the encounter, much of the talk was about Villa boss Tim Sherwood returning to his former stomping ground and how he would approach the match.
But aside from the Sherwood factor, there was also the intriguing match-up between the Premier League’s top two strikers on form – Christian Benteke and Harry Kane.
The Spurs ace currently sits on 29 goals in all competitions this season and leads the Premier League scoring charts, but he was ultimately overshadowed by the country’s leading scorer over the past month.

According to the table provided by Opts Stats, Belgian international Benteke was the game’s outstanding performer as he dominated Kane in five key attacking categories.
Aside from his first-half goal, the former Genk man created more chances for his teammates via key passes and used his height to great advantage, winning 11 aerial battles.
One area of his game which is vastly underrated is his ability to link up play outside the box, demonstrated by his total of 67 touches and 48 passes.
England international Kane did manage three efforts on goal, and he also worked hard in winning the ball back with five ball recoveries.
However, it just wasn’t the youngster’s day and his efforts ultimately proved in vain as Benteke’s 35th-minute opener remained the difference between the two teams.
The Villa striker has now scored eight goals since Sherwood took over the reins at Villa Park, more than any other player in the top flight.
