Report: Newcastle United interested in Queens Park Rangers’ Charlie Austin

St James Park

Newcastle United reportedly want to sign Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers in the summer transfer.

Newcastle United are interested in signing Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers in the summer transfer window, according to The Sun.

It has been reported by the British tabloid that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is willing to spend as much as £10 million for the services of the 25-year-old forward.

“Ashley thinks Austin would bring Newcastle the goals they have been missing and he would also be a centre forward that the fans can love,” states the report.

Would Charlie Austin be a good signing?

Austin has been in superb form so far this season and has been arguably the best player for QPR.

In 29 Premier League appearances so far this campaign, the Englishman has scored 17 goals and created 18 chances, while having a pass accuracy of 67% and a shot accuracy of 67%.

The former Burnley star has proved himself to be able to cope with the rigours of the Premier League, and he would indeed be a good signing for Newcastle.

With the striker’s current contract with QPR running out in June 2016, if Rangers do get relegated to the Championship at the end of the season, then it will be very hard for them to keep hold of him in the summer.
