He has recently been one of the form players at Nottingham Forest, as they forged a last ditch tilt at the playoffs.
It looks like they have come up short but Gardner, whose future at Aston Villa seems to be up in the air, now faces an interesting summer.
He now has a boss back at Villa, in the form of Tim Sherwood, who seems keen on giving youth a chance, and that might see him play a more prominent role at the club next term.
Because Jack Grealish is certainly doing alright. The young midfielder has been given a starting role by Sherwood recently, featuring from the kick-off in his last two games.
Which has certainly pleased Gardner. He was Tweeting throughout the game yesterday, as Villa defeated Tottenham Hotspur 1-0, as he was suspended for Forest's tie with Huddersfield.
And he also had these kind words to say about Grealish earlier today:
What a result for the villa!!!!!!! Get in there!!!— Gary Gardner (@22Gards) April 11, 2015
