West Ham fans debate Sam Allardyce: Failure or best manager since Redknapp?

Sam Allardyce Press Conference 12/02/2014

West Ham supporters have been responding to their manager's latest comments.

West Ham United fans have been understandably vocal when it comes to the future of current boss Sam Allardyce.

The east London club's manager sees his current contract expire at the end of the season - and he scored a massive PR own goal on Friday afternoon by admitting the side's recent form would have earned him the sack at the start of the current campaign.

In response, meanwhile, some West Ham fans have shared their views on the 60-year-old in the comments section on HITC Sport.

The majority are very much anti-Allardyce and want the current coach to leave the Hammers ahead of next season.

One reader, though, jumped to the West Ham boss's defence, raising several intriguing points as to why the Upon Park faithful should get behind him as his contract expires. Of those points, a telling one was the claim that Allardyce is West Ham's best manager since Harry Redknapp.

Post-Redknapp, the east London club have been coached by Glenn Roeder, Alan Pardew, Alan Curbishley, Gianfranco Zola, Avram Grant and Big Sam. Could the current man in charge be the best of that list? More importantly, though, is that good enough for him to earn himself another season at West Ham?

Check out what some supporters have had to say below...

Keeping it short and sweet, Sibbo wrote of Allardyce: 'wish he would clear off now'

TYFIN wrote: 'I think he has already lined up his next job,, and has done for some time.

'Why else would he shoot himself in the foot like this.

'Just wish he would go now so that everyone knows the score and we can build for the future and get rid of all the uncertainty surrounding the Club.

More from TYFIN: 'Just watched Sams' interview on Sky Sport, DEAD MAN WALKING I think, he seemed surprised that David Sullivan was disappointed with the last 12 games. Go after the Stoke game and let us all get on with the future.'

Sarith wrote: 'the only reason he stays is the money always has been,he has shown 0 interest in the clubs future and certainly not the fans, from day one Sam has been insulting the fans with stupid comments like we're deluded.'

However... NJHammer wrote: 'You call yourself fans!, this is a manager that dropped down to the championship to manage us and convince others to join us there, he got us promoted first time of trying. Then has to rebuild the team to compete with others that have better squads, based on the facts they have been there longer and had more money...all the time when funds are restricted at WHU because egghead couldnt do his sums! so what if we have had to resort to parking the bus and play long ball from time to time, its a long term strategy. i would love us to go and spend a fortune on new players, but its a slow process not just financially but you have to convince them to join us! he's the most consistent manager we have had since Redknapp, cos even Pardew couldnt get us up on the first time of trying! and thats taking into account the FA Cup Final. Now i do think Nolan doesnt command a starting place like he used to, but i cant think of any better leaders in the squad and pls remember he was our top scorer last season. So who you gonna replace SA with? Benitez is probably the best proven name about but how much is he really gonna want to spend?? and remember those better players will want CL football...then look at the squad now there is new young blood, with Sakho, Valencia, Cresswell, Hendrie, Henry all reducing the average age of the starting team by 5 years! while maintaining consistancy and a more entertaining style of play. plus you need to remember the results this half of the year have been impacted by having only 1 fit centre back for most of the games. just ignore the press spouting their rubbish and get behind your team!'
