Tottenham player ratings v Aston Villa: Fazio struggles, Rose only bright spot

Bentaleb, Fazio

Tottenham lost 1-0 at home to Aston Villa today - here's how their players rated.

Michel Vorm 6 - distribution could have been better, and was left rooted by Benteke's header which won the game. He did, however, make a key save from Fabian Delph late on.

Vlad Chiriches 4 - flashed ability as a right back earlier this season but today proved that he is a square peg in a round hole. Out of position defensively, offered little going forward and was rightly replaced by DeAndre Yedlin in the second half.

Eric Dier 4 - struggled throughout and looked shaky when going up against Christian Benteke. Wasn't helped by the performance of Fazio alongside him.

Federico Fazio 4 - beaten too easily by Benteke in the air for the goal. Looked well off the pace and did little to suggest that he should be back in the first team on a regular basis.

Danny Rose 7 - offered an attacking threat down the left hand side as one of the few bright spots in a dour Tottenham display.

Ryan Mason 5 - wasn't dynamic enough to make an impact when Tottenham were chasing the game, and the rigours of a full season appear to be taking it's toll on the England international.

Nabil Bentaleb 5 - offered protection to the Tottenham defence, but gave the ball away a little too much today, giving possession back to Aston Villa.

Nacer Chadli 4 - offered nothing going forward in a terrible performance. Was unsurprisingly substituted in favour of Roberto Soldado on the hour mark.

Christian Eriksen 5 - stuck out on the left hand side for large spells, and he just couldn't influence the game as he usually does in a disappointing display.

Andros Townsend 5 - worked hard but couldn't create much for Tottenham to get back into the game, and was taken off for Erik Lamela late on.

Harry Kane 6 - was given very little service and eventually started dropping deep to pick up the ball. A frustrating afternoon for Kane and for Tottenham.

DeAndre Yedlin 5 - introduced over Chiriches with ten minutes to play, and whilst Tottenham lost, fans will be happy to have finally seen the American in action.

Erik Lamela 4 - came on to give Tottenham attacking impetus late on, but offered little and was even booked.

Roberto Soldado 5 - gave Kane some more support in attack but didn't really look like finding the back of the net.
