And when better to do it than against former boss Tim Sherwood at White Hart Lane?
How far away the eventual outcome was from anyone's dreams that Chiriches might actually produce, however, as the Romanian - admittedly let down once again by a poor Andros Townsend failing to help him out down the right - flattered to deceive.
After losing 1-0 to Sherwood's Aston Villa, though, Tottenham supporters were no longer simply criticising Chiriches. No, they were also asking questions of boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Indeed, plenty of Spurs fans would have wanted to see DeAndre Yedlin start ahead of a defender who has proven nothing since moving to north London. The 21-year-old came on to replace Chiriches in the second half and many wanted to see him beforehand.
Any of Tottenham's previous momentum, meanwhile, has simply stalled. Pochettino appears to be having a season just like he did with Southampton last term, with his campaign just petering out. Could it be that, with his massive emphasis on fitness, he has overworked his players so that they can no longer produce?
Back to Chiriches, however, and here's what Spurs fans made of his display - and why Yedlin should replace him - on Twitter:
Questionable team selection.Chiriches always a liability.Or Paulinho last week. What's the point? Might as well get Yedlin & Onomah in #THFC— Goalden Knee (@GoaldenKnee) April 11, 2015
What's the point in playing Chiriches? He's going anyway. We should at least give Yedlin a few games to get him used to the PL. #THFC— AtourT (@AT_Spurs) April 11, 2015
Absolutely amazes me that Poch etc think playing Chiriches at RB is a better option than Yedlin, no matter how long he has been in UK #thfc— Matt Oliver (@mattoliver1980) April 11, 2015
