Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has told BBC Sport that his side deserved to win against Tottenham Hotspur today.
Christian Benteke’s goal in the 35th minute proved to be the difference between the two sides, as Villa maintained their chances of surviving in the Premier League for one more season at least.
Following the win, Sherwood told BBC Sport: "It's a fantastic result - we carried on from the good performance in the 3-3 draw against QPR. We thought we could have a good go and we did. I thought we deserved to win. ...
"We've got some tough games. No-one gave us a chance here or at Manchester City in the next league game. We're within touching distance."
Over the course of 90 minutes, Villa had just 42% of the possession, took 10 shots of which three were on target, and earned six corners.
Moreover, the visiting side also ended the game with 10 men following the dismissal of Carlos Sanchez for a second bookable offence.
Villa are currently 15th in the Premier League table with 32 points from 33 matches, six points above the relegation zone.
Villa’s next league game is against defending English champions Manchester City away from home at the Etihad Stadium on April 25.
