Stat: Lionel Messi’s incredible goalscoring record vs Sevilla

The Barcelona forward has scored 21 goals in 22 outings against the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pijzuan outfit.

Barcelona face a tricky clash away to Sevilla later today, which could play a significant role in the Blaugrana’s chances of winning the La Liga title.

With Luis Enrique’s men four points ahead of rivals Real Madrid at the table’s summit, the Camp Nou side will hope to claim all three points at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pijzuan to maintain their advantage.

The visitors’ collective chances of victory will hinge in part on the performance of Lionel Messi, who continues to be the Catalan club’s talisman.

If history is anything to go by, the Argentine will be relishing stepping out against Unai Emery’s men today.

Messi has faced Sevilla 22 times in all competitions over the course of his career, and netted an incredible 21 goals against the Andalusian club.

The Argentine has only scored more goals against one individual club - Atletico Madrid, with the Vicente Calderon side conceding 23 times to the diminutive attacker.

He has scored seven goals in his last four meetings with Sevilla, including a hat-trick in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

In eight away fixtures at the Pizjuan, the four-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored six goals.

Sevilla fans will surely be sick of the sight of Messi, with the hosts realising that stopping the South American will be key to their chances of getting anything from the game today.
