More bad news on the Facundo Ferreyra front for Newcastle fans

John Carver boss has been discussing the Argentine's fitness.

Newcastle United boss John Carver has delivered yet another underwhelming update on summer signing Facundo Ferreyra, according to the Shields Gazette.

The Argentine has become somewhat of an invisible man at St James' Park, with injuries continually troubling him and preventing him from even making his Newcastle debut.

But so bad are Ferreyra's fitness issues now that even Under-21 games are too distant a possibility for the striker.

Indeed, when Carver asked the forward whether he was ready to feature for the Newcastle Under-21 side for their most recent game, the Magpies boss says Ferreyra simply told him he wasn't ready.

The 50-year-old now hopes the summer signing can feature against Derby County's Under-21s next week - but is more than likely to receive the very same answer from Ferreyra.

“He’s had a back problem and an injection in his disc," Carver told reporters.

“I felt he was ready for it but you have to trust the player. I asked the player and he said he wasn’t ready for it. There’s a game next week against Derby and I’ll ask the same question to see if he’s ready for it."

As for the senior side, Newcastle travel to Liverpool on Monday night knowing they are in truly woeful form.

Indeed, based on their last six Premier League games, the Magpies are bottom of the form table - with no side in the top flight having done worse than Carver's charges of late.
