Liverpool and Arsenal both tracking Sergi Samper - report

The Premier League pair are supposedly interested in the Barcelona midfielder, who has been likened to Cesc Fabregas.

Liverpool and Arsenal are set to do battle for the summer signing of Barcelona starlet Sergi Samper, according to The Mirror.

The 20-year-old midfielder has been likened to fellow La Masia graduate Cesc Fabregas, with his range of passing and creativity sparking excitement in the Blaugrana youth ranks.

However, despite the youngster’s considerable promise, Samper has only made one first-team appearance for the Camp Nou side - which came in a Champions League clash against APOEL FC.

The playmaker is yet to make his La Liga debut for Luis Enrique’s men, with a host of international-quality midfielders ahead of him in the Catalan coach’s thinking.

As such, both Premier League sides are reportedly eyeing up a bargain deal this summer.

Liverpool have a recent history of dipping into the Spanish market, with the likes of Fernando Torres, Pepe Reina and Xabi Alonso all excelling at Anfield and a number of their compatriots currently on Brendan Rodgers’ books.

Arsene Wenger moved quickly to sign Fabregas from the Catalan club as a youngster, while the current Gunners squad has the likes of Mikel Arteta, Nacho Monreal and Santi Cazorla as key members.
