Jack Collison feels Aaron Cresswell could be ready for England

Aaron Cresswell

The former West Ham midfielder has praised the Hammers full-back.

Ex-West Ham United man Jack Collison reacted to Aaron Cresswell's opener against Stoke City with a question crossed with a statement.

Indeed, the midfielder asked whether Cresswell can't be far from an England call-up - but it was more of an assertion.

And, based on the evidence, he certainly can't.

The West Ham man put the Hammers 1-0 up against Stoke at Upton Park, continuing a splendid campaign for the 25-year-old.

It isn't the first time Cresswell has netted this season and it's no overstatement to suggest he has been one of West Ham's biggest pluses of the year.

Of Collison's thoughts, meanwhile, Cresswell surely can't. The problem for the United defender, though, is Roy Hodgson's apparent bias towards the bigger clubs.

Danny Rose, Kieran Gibbs and Luke Shaw among others were all picked for his last England squad but neither of those are arguably in as much form as Ryan Bertrand of Southampton.

Based on this season's performances, meanwhile, West Ham's Cresswell should certainly be considered ahead of the trio. But will Hodgson bother to look outside the top six?
