Diego Maradona: I want this Manchester team to win the derby

Argentine legend Diego Maradona wants Radamel Falcao to score and Manchester United to win the derby against Manchester City at Old Trafford.

As part of the 'Week of Peace' celebrations taking place in Colombia this week and ahead of a friendly match in Bogota, iconic Argentine legend Diego Maradona offered his views on a number of topics, in comments recorded by the Colombian edition of AS.

Needless to say, the former World Cup winner was asked about one of Colombia's leading stars, Radamel Falcao.

Amidst laughter from the gathered journalists, Maradona declared: "I'm not sucking up to anyone when I say this, but if Radamel had been in Brazil, Colombia would have been celebrating their first World Cup win."

Continuing to offer his thoughts about the 29-year-old striker, who hasn't hit the highest of notes at Manchester United this season, Maradona said: "I believe that Radamel has been held back after his injury."

However, there was also recognition from Maradona regarding Falcao switching from France to England, noting: "He's had to change his rhythm and he's had to adapt, but he'll get through this and he'll overcome everything with his football."

The outspoken star also didn't hide his thoughts about Old Trafford boss, Louis van Gaal, amidst recent criticism over how the Dutchman treats his top players.

Maradona suggested: "Van Gaal isn't a very sympathetic guy, he's closer to the devil than anything else. So that's why I want Falcao to be a winner there and to score goals."

As for the Manchester derby this weekend, Maradona picked his favourites, again with the Colombian striker foremost in mind, opted for United: "On Sunday I want Falcao to score and Falcao's team to win."

Finally and in addition, bearing in mind Manchester City forward, Sergio Aguero, is now his former son-in-law, Maradona cheekily smiled and refusing to name any names, commented: "Of the other team and their striker, I don't want to say anything. They don't matter to me... and don't ask me why... you already know!"
