The Spanish defender has admitted that dropped points in the first half of the campaign have inhibited the Gunners.
The Gunners sit seven points behind leaders Chelsea having played a game more and know that they need a minor miracle to leapfrog their London rivals.
Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal has spoken out about the Emirates Stadium outfit’s chances of winning the title and stated that dropped points in the early days of the campaign are now starting to haunt the club.
“We had quite a difficult start,” The London Evening Standard quote Monreal as saying.
“We were winning games but also losing points along the way and those points we lost earlier in the season are proving to be a problem now.
“Now we are going through a very good spell and the team are doing very well. We are bursting with confidence, playing very well and that is the vein in which we need to continue.
“Can we catch Chelsea? We will try. It is very difficult but we are only thinking about winning the next seven games. You never know. It is a dream but we can only win the next seven and see if they lose some games.”
The Gunners face Burnley at Turf Moor later today and know that nothing other than three points will be good enough to keep them within touching distance of the league leaders.
Although Wenger’s men are back in FA Cup action next weekend, they host Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, April 26 in what promises to be a mouthwatering clash.
Monreal has played his part in the Gunners’ climb up the table, with the 29-year-old starting in recent victories over Liverpool and Newcastle.
