The Manchester United and England captain has a history of performing in Manchester derbies.
The England forward has returned to form after manager Louis Van Gaal started to employ him in his favoured forward position, with a wonderful volley against Aston Villa the latest effort on his show reel.
And if the history of the Manchester derby is anything to go by, then he is the man the current Premier League champions should be worried about when the sides clash this weekend.
Rooney is the all-time record scorer in such fixtures with 11 goals, with eight of those coming in Premier League ties. In contrast, Sergio Aguero has five and Edin Dzeko has four.
Elsewhere, only Alan Shearer has scored more goals than Rooney against City in the Premier League, with Rooney on the previously mentioned figure of eight but likely to overtake the England legend at some point.
That means in all competitions, Rooney averages a goal every other game in Manchester derbies. Considering that he didn’t score the last time the two sides met, he is definitely the man City should fear when Sunday’s fixture kicks off.
