The former Liverpool defender doesn't think manager Louis Van Gaal will change his system for the Argentine star.
The Reds take on fierce rivals Manchester City on Sunday in a game that will prove crucial to both sides’ Champions Leagues hopes come the end of the season.
United are on a good run of form of late, with manager Louis Van Gaal having settled upon a favoured XI, with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera all catching the eye.
As far as Carragher is concerned, star signing Di Maria won’t be coming back into the side for the game, despite having made an impressive cameo in the win over Aston Villa last time around.
“I don’t think he’ll start,” said Carragher.
“Van Gaal shows that when he picks a team and wins he picks the same team again. I expected Di Maria to come back in against Liverpool, but they kept Juan Mata and he got the two goals.”
The former Liverpool defender also believes that Van Gaal isn’t the type of manager to be swayed into changing his line-up because of a name or price tag.
The former Holland boss has left club record signing Di Maria and star forward Radamel Falcao out throughout the season, as both have struggled following their big money moves, in favour of those in form.
“I think the form United are in at the moment he will keep the same team - he seems that type of coach,” added Carragher.
“He has said that big personalities or the cost of a player does not matter, and at the moment the team is playing well, and I’m sure he’ll stick with it.”
