Tim Sherwood has explained why he is enjoying his time as Spurs boss.
“It is the perfect job for me,” the former Spurs boss said. “If we can just survive this season, it gives me the chance to build my own squad and have pre-season, which will be brilliant.”
Admittedly, Sherwood appears to be banking on securing survival to start properly enjoying his time at Villa Park, as he can then rebuild the team in his image.
The club look well set to secure that survival in the top flight in the coming weeks, with Sherwood playing no little part in that, and it could be suggested that Villa are the perfect team for him to be in charge of.
The Birmingham-based side possess a youthful core of potential stars, as well as a number of younger prospects coming through the academy ranks, and Sherwood showed at Tottenham that he is willing to look towards youth if needs be.
He has no problems with throwing big-money signings out for the good of the team, and he appears to favour a collective team spirit to get results over large egos. Thankfully for him, Christian Benteke - arguably the superstar in the squad - seems very humble, and there are no players who need obviously throwing out.
If they can see through to the end of this season with their survival secured, Sherwood will look at his squad in the summer and complete any necessary work to make a competitive team. There is no judging that he will be a success next season, but the coach is right to think that he is in the perfect job for someone with his skill set.
