Pochettino: My Tottenham side need to be wary of this Villa star

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is wary of Aston Villa's threat.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has told the Daily Mail that he is wary of the threat that Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke could pose to his side.

Benteke has been in fine form since Tim Sherwood took charge at Villa and goes into the game against Tottenham having netted a hat-trick against Queens Park Rangers in his last match.

It means that his confidence is high and Pochettino admits that his side's defenders will need to be on top of their game if they are to keep Benteke quiet.

"He (Benteke) has great momentum. He is a very good player. A strong player. We need to be careful with him.

"Aston Villa have a very good side and tomorrow we expect a tough game."

Benteke has scored seven goals in his last five matches for Villa and is their most obvious offensive weapon.

Blessed with pace, power and a deadly finish, the 24-year-old is regarded as one of the Premier League's best strikers and Tottenham will need to be on their guard to stop him.

If they can, their chances of winning look greatly increased, but doing so will be easier said than done.

Benteke has done damage to a number of Premier League defences this campaign and he will be one of Villa's most important players as they look to avoid the drop.

At the moment the Claret and Blues are three points above the relegation zone, which means that they travel to White Hart Lane this weekend desperate to get a victory.
