The former Rangers attacker, who also played for Newcastle United, made the comments on the Sky Sports’ Morning View show on Thursday morning.
“I think they will now,” said Lovenkrands when asked if Rangers will return to the Premiership. “Stuart McCall has done a good job and I think as well they needed that change. You can see the desire in the team now.
“Against Hearts at the weekend, they played fantastically well at the start of the game. That came from a new manager coming in, players playing for their own careers - there are 12 players who are out of contract at the end of the season so they all played for their own careers as well.
“We will see if he gets them (Rangers) back up,” said the former Denmark international when asked if McCall should get the role on a full-time basis.
“I do think that he is a good man for the club, and I think that he has done a good job until now, but if he gets them up, then I think that will decide most of it.”
McCall was appointed the Rangers manager last month, and he has done a good job so far, as chances of the Gers reaching the Scottish Championship playoffs are very much intact.
The Scot could have done nothing to get the Scottish giants gain automatic promotion to the Premiership, as when he came in, that chance had virtually gone.
Even if Rangers get to the playoffs, there is no guarantee that they will get promoted, but given what McCall has done, perhaps the club bosses should keep faith in him.
It will be a huge disappointment for the Rangers fans if they fail to return to the Premiership at the end of the season, but for the club to progress and gain automatic promotion next campaign, they need to stick to McCall.
