Louis van Gaal rules Robin van Persie out of Manchester United v Manchester City clash

Robin van Persie will miss the Manchester derby between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has told MUTV that Robin van Persie will not feature against Manchester City on Sunday.

The 31-year-old striker has returned to full training, but Van Gaal has stated that his Dutch compatriot will not recover in time for the Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

The former Arsenal captain has not featured for the Red Devils since the 2-1 defeat to Swansea City back in February.

Van Persie picked up an ankle problem during that game, and many United fans would have hoped that he recovers his match fitness for Sunday’s Manchester derby.

However, it seems that the Netherlands international striker will still need some time to recover from the problem and will have to sit out the game against defending Premier League champions City.

United will head into the Manchester derby placed third in the Premier League table with 62 points from 31 matches, a point ahead of City.
