Hull City boss Steve Bruce blames agent of Alex Mowatt for recent £7m link

The Leeds United star has been linked with a move to The Tigers this week.

Hull City boss Steve Bruce has distanced himself with links to Leeds United midfielder Alex Mowatt.

The Tigers boss was speaking in his weekly press conference when he was quizzed on the apparent interest, which was reported by The Mirror earlier in the week.

But he distanced his club from claims of an imminent £7 million bid, in quotes from the Hull Daily Mail:

“John (Rudge, City scout) was watching Wolves versus Leeds. Looking at the articles, it was probably the agents. Look, it is our job to track all good, young players.

“There is no doubt he is a good player. It is a bit premature to say Alex Mowatt is on the radar.

“He is a good young player but that is as far as it has gone. I think his agent has had a part. Last year, there were 150 players I was linked with and we bought five.”

The news will come as both a relief and a concern for Leeds fans.

The fact is Hull have him on their radar. While no bid is on it's way he is now in the crosshairs of the Premier League side.

The fact it seems his agent is also stirring things up to potentially force a move will not sit well with Leeds fans either.

However, Bruce is usually fairly up front about these things, so as it stands, no move is currently on the cards.

Leeds fans are desperate for their top young talents to remain at Elland Road this summer. The likes of Mowatt, Lewis Cook, Sam Byram and Charlie Taylor have all come through with aplomb this term and fears of their departures, and that of manager Neil Redfearn, are real.

It does however seem, that for now, Mowatt will not be heading to the KC Stadium.
